Chana Dal Sambar - For a Change


Want to taste a different Sambar, yet tasty? Is Toor Dal not available? Is Toor Dal too expensive? Want a substitute to make Sambar? Well, try this, you will realize that Sambar never tasted so good before.

Ingredients:

2 tbsp fried Channa Dal
1 medium onion, finely chopped
1 tomato, diced
1/4 tsp turmeric powder
Salt to taste
Dry red chillies
1 tbsp coriander seeds
1/4 tsp mustard seeds
2 tsp oil
Curry leaves
Coriander leaves

Method:

Fry dry red chillies, coriander seeds in a pan. After frying the red chillies and coriander seeds, powder them. Keep this aside. Grind fried Channa Dal seperately. Heat oil in a vessel. Add mustard seeds and curry leaves. Add onion, tomato, salt, turmeric powder and fry well. Take 1-1/2 cups of water and bring it to the boiling point. Add chilli-coriander powder mix to the boiling water. Then add fried Channa Dal powder and mix it well. Allow to boil and garnish wit coriander leaves. Serve Hot!
